Queensland Hall of Democracy

The Queensland Hall of Democracy embraces technology to form a digital and direct form of democracy.

Glass displays surround the building creating an augmented reality. Replicating the effects of our screens, encouraging us to express our opinions and most importantly it represents those opinions.

This project, as part of my final year of study, was an opportunity to materialise my opinions of democracy in a building. I have aimed to create a place that can both inform and react to peoples opinions. Acting as a digital and collective speakers corner in a very prominent site on George st. Brisbane amongst the government and future Casino Precinct.

Participation

Through the technology we use everyday the people can be engaged to become more involved in politics and their futures. This also creates the op portunity for education on politics. Using overlays on videos for example, allows people to see and participate in parliament or just to learn with live information.

A Destination

The Hall of Democracy should also be a destination, with the aim of indirectly engaging people with politics. The inclusion of restaurant, retail and recreation spaces aids this attrictiveness. The iconic and dynamic built form also aims to engage people , even if just momentarily.
